1. The Job Interview
Tom had a big job interview today. He was nervous (紧张的) because he really wanted the job. It was for a position (职位) at a famous technology company. He prepared for the interview by practicing questions and learning about the company.
When Tom arrived at the office, he met the manager, Ms. Brown. She asked him to sit down and began asking questions about his experience (经验). Tom explained that he had worked on several big projects (项目) at his last job and enjoyed solving problems.
Ms. Brown then asked Tom a difficult question: "What is your biggest weakness (弱点)?" Tom thought for a moment and answered honestly. He said he sometimes gets too focused (专注) on small details but is working to improve it. Ms. Brown smiled and said it was a common problem.
At the end of the interview, Ms. Brown told Tom that he did a great job. He left the office feeling more confident (自信的). A week later, he got a phone call saying he got the job!
2. Finishing the Big Project
Jake worked as an engineer (工程师) for a construction company. One day, his boss gave him a big project. Jake had to design (设计) a new bridge for the city. It was a very important task, and Jake knew it would take a lot of time and effort (努力).
For many weeks, Jake worked late into the night, drawing (绘图) plans and checking his calculations (计算). He had to make sure the bridge would be safe and strong. Sometimes, Jake felt tired, but he kept going because he wanted the project to be perfect.
Finally, after months of hard work, Jake finished the design. He showed it to his boss, who was very impressed (印象深刻的). The city approved (批准) the plan, and the construction team started building the bridge.
A year later, Jake stood on the new bridge, watching cars drive over it. He felt proud of everything he had done. Completing the project was a big achievement (成就), and it made Jake even more excited about his job.
3. The Business Trip
John worked as a sales manager (销售经理) for a large company. One day, his boss told him that he needed to go on a business trip (出差) to another city. John had never traveled for work before, so he was both excited and nervous.
He packed (打包) his suitcase with his laptop, important documents (文件), and clothes. The next morning, John took an early flight to the city. When he arrived, he had to go straight to a meeting (会议) with some important clients (客户).
During the meeting, John gave a presentation (演讲) about the company's new products. He spoke clearly and answered all the clients' questions. By the end of the meeting, the clients were very impressed (印象深刻) with John's work, and they agreed to sign a contract (合同).
After a long day of meetings, John finally had some time to relax. He explored the city and tried some local food. Although the trip was tiring (累人), John was happy with the successful deal.
4. The Raise
Jack had been working at the company for three years. He always arrived on time and worked hard. Jack hoped to get a raise (涨薪), but he was too shy (害羞) to ask his boss.
One day, his boss, Mr. Taylor, called Jack into his office. Jack was nervous (紧张的) and didn't know what to expect. Mr. Taylor smiled and said, "Jack, I've noticed (注意到) how hard you've been working. You always finish your tasks on time and help your teammates. That's why we've decided to give you a raise."
Jack couldn't believe it! He thanked his boss and left the office with a big smile. With the extra money, Jack planned to save for a new car.
Later that day, Jack told his family the good news. They were proud of him and celebrated with a nice dinner. Jack felt happy that his hard work had been recognized (被认可).
5. Losing the Job
Tom had worked at a big company for five years. He liked his job and got along well with his coworkers (同事). One morning, the company announced (宣布) that they were cutting jobs. Tom was shocked when his manager told him he was being laid off (被裁员).
At first, Tom felt sad and worried. He didn't know how he would pay his bills (账单) or find a new job. But his wife, Sarah, encouraged (鼓励) him. She reminded him that he had many skills (技能) and could find something new.
Tom started looking for other jobs. He updated his resume (简历) and applied to many companies. After weeks of searching, he finally got an interview (面试). A week later, he received good news: he was hired (被雇佣) at a new company.
Even though losing his job was hard, Tom learned that sometimes change can lead to better opportunities (机会).
6. Becoming a Taxi Driver
James had been searching for a job for months. He had sent out many resumes (简历) and attended interviews (面试), but no one hired him. It was hard to find work in his city. Every day, he felt more and more frustrated (沮丧).
One afternoon, his friend Tom suggested driving a taxi. "It's not easy," Tom said, "but you can earn (赚) some money while you look for another job." James thought about it and decided to give it a try.
At first, James didn't like the idea of being a taxi driver. He wanted a career (事业) in an office, not driving people around. But after a few weeks, he started to enjoy it. He met interesting people every day and learned more about the city. He also felt proud when passengers thanked him for his good service.
Although James still hoped to find a better job one day, driving a taxi helped him feel useful (有用的) again. It wasn't his dream job, but it was better than doing nothing.
7. Mark's Big Idea
Mark always wanted to start his own business (生意). He loved making homemade soap (肥皂) and thought he could sell it to people in his town. At first, he wasn't sure how to begin. He started by making a few bars of soap and selling them to his friends.
Soon, word spread, and more people wanted to buy his soap. Mark worked hard every night to make enough. He also learned how to create a website (网站) so people could buy his products online. It wasn't easy, and sometimes Mark felt tired and worried if he could succeed.
But after a few months, his business started to grow. More people ordered his soap, and some shops even asked to sell it. Mark was so happy to see his idea turn into a successful business. He realized (意识到) that with hard work and patience, dreams can come true.
Now, Mark's soap company is one of the most popular in his town, and he's proud of how far he's come.
8. The Big Mistake
David worked as a delivery driver (送货员) for a company that delivered important documents (文件). One day, he had to deliver an important package to a business downtown. The boss told him it was urgent (紧急的) and needed to be there by noon.
David hurried to the office but got stuck in traffic. He was worried about being late, so when he finally arrived, he rushed inside. In his hurry, he didn't check the address carefully. He handed the package to the receptionist (接待员) and left.
Later that afternoon, David's phone rang. It was his boss. "David, you delivered the package to the wrong office!" the boss said, sounding upset. David's heart sank (心沉了下来). He realized his mistake. The package was supposed to go to another company across the street.
David quickly went back to fix the mistake, but it was already too late. The package didn't arrive on time, and the client (客户) was very unhappy. David apologized (道歉), and his boss told him to be more careful in the future.
9. Staying Late at the Office
Jake worked as a graphic designer (平面设计师) in a busy company. He loved his job, but sometimes he had to stay late to finish his projects. One evening, Jake was working on an important design for a client (客户). The deadline (截止日期) was very close, and he wanted to do his best.
As the sun set (日落), Jake noticed that most of his coworkers had gone home. He felt a little lonely in the quiet office. While he worked, he played some music to keep his spirits up. The rhythm (节奏) helped him focus on his work.
After a few hours, Jake finally finished the design. He was tired, but he felt proud. He saved his work and sent it to the client. Just then, his boss, Ms. Smith, walked in. She smiled and said, "Great job, Jake! I appreciate your hard work."
Jake felt happy and realized that staying late had been worth it. He learned that sometimes, working overtime could lead to success and recognition (认可) in his career.
10. A Day Off
Jack worked at a busy office. He liked his job, but sometimes he felt very tired (疲惫). One morning, he woke up with a headache (头痛). He knew he needed to rest, so he decided to take a day off from work.
Jack called his boss, Ms. Smith. "Hello, Ms. Smith. I am not feeling well today. I would like to take a sick leave (病假)." Ms. Smith understood and told him to take care of himself.
After the call, Jack lay down on the couch (沙发) and closed his eyes. He felt happy that he could rest. He watched his favorite movie and drank some hot tea. The warm tea made him feel better.
In the afternoon, Jack took a nap (小睡). When he woke up, he felt much better. He realized that taking a day off was a good idea. The next day, he returned to work feeling refreshed (精神焕发).
Jack learned that sometimes it is important to take a break (休息). It helps you feel good and do your best at work.
